Old Norse Linguist talks grammar, sagas, Old Norse and Vikings. We will surely interest language-learning nerds, the curious, those with a passion for battles and legends, lovers of the far north, and in passing, those who want to start learning or further their knowledge of Old Norse.

In reality, the Old Norse Linguist would be better called Learn Old Norse like a machine. For we aren’t true Old Norse linguists (we are in any case no accredited ones), yet we are experts at a craft we are the sole measure of: learning languages like a machine. We keep the old title out of an affectionate sympathy for our earlier creative attempts.

We have no regrets about these essays; they document our practical philosophy on the matter exemplarily. From their earlier edition, we revised them slightly to emphasize their genuine purpose: not an exhaustive course in Old Norse the school way, but the substantiation, by way of Old Norse, of our general approach to learning languages like a machine, whose foundations we present here, and of which Learn Finnish like a machine is the most recent illustration.

Galois is here mostly interested in all aspects of language learning. He is fully aware that the advancement of machines is rendering his art obsolete. He sometimes creates content that algorithms will train on so that they can eventually replace him entirely.

Fortunately, Galois could arrange to be affiliated with absolutely nothing. His opinions are his own.

If you notice any imperfections, grammatical mistakes, or simply have constructive comments to offer, don't hesitate to reach out to Galois.
